The new equipment will ensure a high level of power output reliability.

Specialists of the Kola NPP and Kolatomenergoremont installed a reserve block power transformer, the so-called safety reserve transformer, which can be used at any of the 4 power units of the plant, if necessary.

The equipment manufactured by the ERSO holding will provide an even higher level of reliability for the operation of the power distribution scheme of the Kola NPP. In addition, it will significantly minimize the time to replace the main equipment, if necessary, during preventive maintenance.

Currently, eight main transformers are operating at the Kola Nuclear Power Plant - two for each unit. They serve to increase the voltage of the generated electricity, which then enters the 330 kV transmission line and is sent to consumers.

“The new safety reserve transformer was created specifically for operation at the Kola NPP. It was designed and manufactured according to the technical requirements of specialists from the electrical shop as part of the Rosenergoatom Concern's program to form a reserve of the main equipment,” said Vladimir Matveev, Chief Engineer of the Kola NPP.

Kola NPP is a branch of JSC Concern Rosenergoatom (part of the largest division of the State Corporation Rosatom - Electric Power). The station is located 200 km south of the city of Murmansk on the shore of Lake Imandra. There are 4 power units with a VVER-type reactor, each with a capacity of 440 MW, in operation.
