The new traction transformer put for testing

Tests of a new electric freight locomotive “Orlets”, which is equipped with a traction transformer of the ONDTSV-2400 /25-U2 type, have started at the Test Loop of All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Railway Transport in Shcherbinka.

This exceptional development of the ERSO Holding is designed for a mainline electric freight locomotive with asynchronous traction drive with a design speed of 120 km/h. The distinctive characteristics of the traction transformer, developed by engineers of the ERSO Transformer Solutions design bureau, include high energy efficiency, adaptability to climatic conditions, as well as its space effective dimensions and weight.

The electric freight locomotive “Orlets” was developed by Ural Locomotives LLC. The key features of the new locomotive are a completely domestic componential base, a learning control system of the traction drive and 42% higher load capacity than the previous model. The finalization date for completion of certification and acceptance tests of the electric freight locomotive is the end of spring 2026.
