How ERSO engineers supervise installation of equipment

The chief engineer must have both technical and communication skills, be able to communicate with locksmiths and directors.
The quality work of a transformer or reactor depends not only on where and by whom it was manufactured, but also on how it turned out to be integrated into the object for which it was intended. These products are not household appliances, they cannot simply be plugged into an outlet and a toggle switch thrown over. It requires the work of a professional specialist - an engineer who will connect (supervised installation) of the machine to the substation.
The customer is free to dispose of the equipment created for him. He can prescribe in the contract the delivery of the unit, unloading, and, for example, take over the execution of installation supervision. However, in this case, the holding's warranty obligations are terminated - no one can vouch for the quality of integration if it was produced by other people. However, this rarely happens.
“If the customer wants to perform supervision himself, he will have to look for subcontractors on his own,” says Timur Saetgareev, head of the UTZ service center of the ERSO holding. This creates additional difficulties for him. It is much easier to include an appropriate clause in the contract, and we will carry out this work on a turnkey basis.”
An application for installation supervision works is submitted to the center approximately 10 days before the procedure. The date of departure of the specialist, the list of necessary equipment are agreed upon, an agreement is concluded with contractors. And finally, in accordance with the technical documentation, the installation team led by an ERSO engineer begins its work.
“A chief engineer must have a number of important skills and competencies,” explains Saetgareev. - This is at least 5 years of experience with electrical equipment, good knowledge of equipment, principles of work in power systems. He must be trained in electrical safety (not less than group IV), have a permit to work at height, must know the fire-technical minimum and skills in the use of medical care.
In the course of his work, the chief engineer has to communicate with a large number of people from different regions and with different cultures. Therefore, he must be sociable, be able to find a common language with both a locksmith and a high-ranking leader.
“Also, any chief engineer has document management skills,” continues Timur Saetgareev. “He maintains a complete set of documentation: he records all the key technological stages of the assembly of transformers or reactors, the preparation of equipment for switching on, etc. with acts.”
It happens that excesses occur during the installation process. This may be poor training of contract personnel or understaffing. To avoid downtime, the chief engineer notifies the customer in writing about the incident and how to eliminate it.
“The equipment is expensive, and we cannot afford low-skilled workers to integrate it,” sums up the head of the UTZ service center of the ERSO holding.
