ERSO sets standards of energy efficiency

For the first time, the regulatory document introduces the definitions of “energy efficiency” and “cost of ownership of transformer equipment within the period of operation”, provides methods for calculating the economic effect of operating transformers with reduced losses, as well as methods for the new equipment period of recoupment.

At the first stage, the working group of the Technical Committee for Standardization of “Electrical energy industry” (TC 016), headed by ERSO specialists, were involved both representatives of the Russian transformer building industry and key customers for discussing the draft standard. At the stage of public review, the expert community joined the discussion.

According to accomplishments of the work carried out starting from January 1, 2026, the manufactured equipment can be classified as energy efficient and customers will become aware of economic benefits of saving on losses and manage the cost of owning a transformer fleet, which will positively affect many related processes: starting from curbing the electricity tariff for the end user to reducing the anthropogenic impact on the environment.

The next stage after the expiration of the two-year period of the standard validity in the state of “preliminary national” is the release of the State Standard of the Russian Federation (GOST R) for energy efficiency of power transformers.
